Werner Herbers (1940-2023) devoted his life to promoting compelling music by progressive composers who had disappeared into oblivion, such as George Antheil, Hanns Eisler and Erwin Schulhoff. Music that still sounds strikingly relevant today. A tribute in two concerts to the man who rediscovered, both in the Netherlands and abroad, exciting music and breathed new life into it.
The concerts in the Muziekgebouw are part of a three-day, multi-location festival that is entirely dedicated to Werner Herbers. During this festival, you will hear the uninhibited music of Antheil, the undisguised social outcry of Eisler, the charming allure of Schulhoff, groundbreaking big-band music by Robert Graettinger, and many other unknown masterpieces. All performed by an ensemble of Werner’s colleagues together with students from the classical and jazz departments of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
