Slow Roads

What is the significance of meantone temperament for today’s music? Serbian composer Ivan Vukosavljevic, residing in The Hague, offers a compelling answer. His album Slow Roads features eight pieces composed in meantone temperament, performed on historical 16th and 17th century organs. Today, organist Tineke Steenbrink brings these works to life on the Fokker organ. The outcome: expanded possibilities and a fresh perspective on these hypnotic compositions. 

Ivan Vukosavljevic wrote Slow Roads between 2019 and 2022 for solo organ in meantone temperament. With this work, he evokes the sound world of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance in a 21st-century voice. A world in which Tineke Steenbrink feels completely at home. The artistic director and organist/harpsichordist of Holland Baroque is thus ready to embrace the challenge presented by the Fokker organ.
