A collection of highlights from the vast choral repertoire of Arvo Pärt

Estonian composer Arvo Pärt is without a doubt one of today’s most sung composers. It is rare to find a choir that does not perform his works. The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir performs his music with an even greater intensity and emotional resonance than other groups, possibly partly due to their frequent contact with the composer. NRC Handelsblad wrote the following about their concert at the Pärt Festival 2022 in the Muziekgebouw: ‘A privilege to have been there. Subdued... awe-inspiring...’.

The composer will celebrate his 90th birthday in September 2025. In honour of this milestone, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will perform a selection of works from Pärt’s vast choral repertoire. One of the highlights is the 1989 Magnificat, a moving hymn of praise to Mary. This is preceded by the Sieben Magnificat-Antiphonen. Also featured are selections from Pärt’s Kanon pokajanen, a piece that has become a classic of contemporary choral music.
