Seven cantatas about the body of the suffering Christ

Around the year 1705, Bach embarked on a 300-kilometer journey by foot to hear Dietrich Buxtehude play the organ in Lübeck. Buxtehude received widespread acclaim during his lifetime, and his music continues to move people. The Swiss ensemble Voces Suaves presents his masterwork Membra Jesu Nostri: seven powerful cantatas about various parts of the body of the suffering, dying Christ.

The finely tuned ensemble Gli Incogniti, led by the French baroque violinist Amandine Beyer, accompanies Voces Suaves. They show that Buxtehude was a maestro, also in his purely instrumental music. This concert, significantly, follows shortly after the debut of Voces Suaves in the Muziekgebouw in October 2024.
