Famous heroism and undiscovered beauty

Despite having passed his 70th birthday, Ronald Brautigam continues to perform at the highest level. Since 2009 he has worked closely with the Kölner Akademie and together they released the highly acclaimed integral recordings of the piano concertos by Mozart and Beethoven. This successful combination will be continued in Beethoven’s Third piano concerto and the Second piano concerto by ‘the Dutch Beethoven’ Johann Wilhelm Wilms.

The German-Dutch Wilms composed five piano concertos, all of which were recorded by Brautigam with the Kölner Akademie. ‘Performances full of lightness and transparency’, wrote BBC Magazine, lauding the recording with a five-star rating. The programme also features the First symphony by Louise Farrenc, a classical composer and concert pianist who defied convention. A century and a half after her passing, she is finally gaining recognition and stepping out of the shadow of her male peers.
