Immerse yourself in the layered world of Bach

‘Hear her if you can’, wrote the English Gramophone some fifteen years ago about Isabelle Faust’s impressive recordings of Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin. Now you can hear – and see – her in the Muziekgebouw. Isabelle Faust performs all of Bach's sonatas and partitas in one single night. A tour de force that will fully immerse you in the equally beautiful and layered world of Johann Sebastian Bach.

In all likelihood, Bach wrote many of the pieces that make up the Sonatas and Partitas in the first decade of the 18th century in Weimar; early in his career. In the same period, the cello suites emerged, showcasing his impressive ability to apply polyphony to a melodic instrument. Tonight’s magnificent journey culminates in his greatest achievement in this regard: the Chaconne from the Second partita.
