Golden line-up for Bach’s masterpiece

‘The opening notes of the St. Matthew Passion, have they ever sounded so beautiful? The suffering of Jesus unfolds in utmost beauty.’ Auke Kok wrote this in newspaper Het Parool after the 2022 performance of the St. Matthew Passion by Cappella Amsterdam and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century at the Muziekgebouw, under the direction of Daniel Reuss. In 2026, there is another chance to experience Bach’s great masterpiece in this golden line-up.

The Netherlands’ fascination with Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew Passion is an international phenomenon. There is no other country where this passion is performed so frequently in the run-up to Easter. This rendition by the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and Cappella Amsterdam is considered one of the finest.
