A magic interplay of words and music in storytelling premiere

Long ago, though very much in the here and now, was a man who mistakenly believed himself to be superior to others. The Wise Ones up in the Great Beyond chose to ‘educate’ the man by casting him out of his village and ordering him to wander the Earth until he (re)discovered his humility. We Are Who We Are covers the segment of his journey where he crosses paths, and spends time with Hungarian Roma. Through song and the exchange of stories the man is able to reassess his place in the world and discover that no one human being is ever truly above or below any other human being. Chidi Ebere, author of award-winning novel Now I Am Here, and the youthful Roma band Ham Ko Ham bring this tale to life through the interplay of words and music.

Courage! That’s what it’s about this fall during The Amsterdam Storytelling Festival from November 6 to 10 at Podium Mozaïek in Amsterdam West. Dozens of artists from all over the world will come together and share their soul stirrings through storytelling, clowning and music.

The performance We Are Who We Are takes place at Podium Mozïek as part of the Amsterdam Storytelling Festival. The performance is co-sponsored by Muziekgebouw Productiehuis, which provides space for a new generation of musicians and makers to develop new artistic projects.
