Featuring Kristia Michael: soulful performer and soprano

The young Cypriot singer Kristia Michael joins us in this NAPzak. She is a soulful performer who is equally well-versed in medieval music, contemporary music, and folk music. In this programme, all these worlds come together. Yannis Kyriakides wrote a piece for Kristia with strong influences from Byzantine music.

Silvia Borzelli’s piece was inspired by a song sung by a woman from Cameroon and a blues song by an African-American woman. Like Beat Furrer, she used ‘only’ the double bass as the accompaniment. The soprano’s high-flying song dances above the earthy growl of Dario Calderone’s double bass. Ivan Fedele’s Arcipelago is a virtuoso journey through all the registers of the ensemble.

NB. at the request of the musicians, this concert will take place on Foyerdeck 1, where this programme will be presented at its optimal level
