Beautiful, gripping music about hope and consolation

The Amsterdam Mixed Choir performs Brahms' magnificent Ein deutsches Requiem for soloists and choir accompanied by two pianos. How beautifully the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams complements the program is revealed in Five Mystical Songs for baritone, choir and string quartet and the lyrical The Lark Ascending in an arrangement by Paul Drayton for choir and violin.

In his Ein deutsches Requiem Brahms appeals to a universal religious sentiment. The lyrics are chosen from both the Old and the New Testaments, selected specifically with the aim to write a requiem for the living, rather than the dead. This beautiful, gripping music is about human emotions like sorrow, hope and consolation in the light of transience.
