Unprecedented combinations and surprising music

For the fifth time, the biennial Alba Rosa Viva! Festival takes place. The festival centres on the work of Italian composer and violinist Alba Rosa Viëtor (1889-1979). This time featuring a truly special chamber music trio: recorder player Erik Bosgraaf, pianist Ralph van Raat, and the young double bass player Sasha Witteveen. They will play solo and as a duo before winding off as a trio with a new work by composer Willem Jeths. A concert offering a festival atmosphere, full of unprecedented combinations and surprising music.

Apart from being a concert evening, this evening also marks the final of the Alba Rosa Viëtor Composition Competition. For previous winners like Mathilde Wantenaar and Primo Ish-Hurwitz, this composition competition marked the start of their careers. For this edition, the jury selected four finalists: Ali Hosseini (Iran), Matthias Guntner (Austria), Sára Iván (Hungary) and Björn Pinxter (Netherlands). These young composers each wrote a chamber music piece for recorder, double bass and piano. An expert jury consisting of composers Willem Jeths, Mathilde Wantenaar, Elena Firsova, Judith Weir and artistic director Reinild Mees will choose the winner. The audience can vote for the Audience Award. After the concert, there will be a festive awards ceremony.
