Tenebris Suspiria Naturae & The Way We Are

Double-bill van twee performance-kunstenaars die samen met associate artist ANOHNI aan de wieg stonden van het Future Feminism collectief. Ze presenteren dans en muziek, ontstaan in de grensverleggende New Yorkse performancescene.

Kembra Pfahler (onder andere de drijvende kracht achter de band The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black) en Johanna Constantine zijn van meet af aan betrokken bij het Future Feminism collectief, waar ook associate artist ANOHNI en CocoRosie deel van uitmaken. Future Feminism roept op tot de opkomst van een vrouwelijk collectief bewustzijn om te redden wat er nog over is van onze wereld.

Samen maakten ze in 2014 dertien stenen met stellingen, waaronder: ‘De onderwerping van de vrouw en van de aarde is één en dezelfde’ en ‘Verlos mannen van hun rol als beschermers en roofdieren.’ Sinds de start van het project in 2014 hebben de principes van het Future Feminism Manifesto bekendheid gekregen en zijn ze toegeëigend in de populaire cultuur, met name stelling nummer 13: ‘De toekomst is vrouwelijk’ (The Future is Female).

The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black presenteert The Way We Are. Een onverschrokken en activistisch concert met fantastische rekwisieten en kostuums, ontworpen door leadzangeres Kembra Pfahler zelf. De songteksten zijn geïnspireerd op de dertien stellingen van Future Feminism.

Performance artist en DJ Johanna Constantine presenteert haar langste werk ooit: Tenebris Suspiria Naturae (‘The Dark Sigh of Nature’). Dit werk met meerdere dansers heeft als thema de worsteling om te overleven in een onvoorspelbare omgeving.

A double-bill with two performance artists who, together with associate artist ANOHNI, started an art project called Future Feminism. They will present dance and music originating from the ground-breaking New York performance scene.

Kembra Pfahler (the driving force behind the band The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black) and Johanna Constantine were from the very beginning involved with the project Future Feminism that associate artist ANOHNI and CocoRosie are also part of. Future Feminism calls for a feminine collective consciousness to emerge in order to save what remains of our world.

In 2014, they made thirteen marble works presenting tenets, such as: ‘The subjugation of women and the earth is one in the same’, and ‘Relieve men of their roles as protectors and predators’. Since the project began in 2014, the tenets of the Future Feminism Manifesto have been widely recognised and appropriated in popular culture, most notably tenet 13: ‘The future is female’.

The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black presents The Way We Are. A fearlessly activistic concert with fantastic props and costumes designed by lead singer Kembra Pfahler herself. The song lyrics are inspired by Future Feminism’s thirteen tenets.

Performance artist and DJ Johanna Constantine will present her longest work ever: Tenebris Suspiria Naturae (‘The Dark Sigh of Nature’). This work with several dancers has the struggle for survival in an unpredictable environment as its theme.
