FIBER X The Rest is Noise 2023

Editie 2023 van de audiovisuele concertserie FIBER x The Rest Is Noise is terug op de vertrouwde plek, de eerste vrijdag van het nieuwe jaar. Met zinderende audiovisuele samenwerkingen tussen musici en beeldende kunstenaars, op het snijvlak van muziek, media en materie. 

MONOLITH
De installatie en performance MONOLITH is gebaseerd op het concept van een chemische tuin ontstaan door synthetische groei, beschreven in het boek The Mechanism of Life van de Franse arts en natuurkundige Stéphane Leduc. Beeldend kunstenaar Vincent Rang vertaalde dit concept naar het podium, waarbij hij zijn blik vooral richt op natuurlijke patronen gevormd door wind, water en kristal. MONOLITH maakte hij samen met dj/producer Shoal, voor wie de verbinding tussen geest, lichaam en klank centraal staat, en pianist Helena Basilova, die klassieke traditie koppelt aan hedendaagse compositie en technologie. 

Nik Colk Void, Klara Lewis en Pedro Maia
Pop, noise, techno en ongepolijste ambient komen samen met analoge film in het audiovisuele project van Nik Colk Void, Klara Lewis en Pedro Maia. Nik maakte naam in de experimentele elektronische muziek met de bands Factory Floor en Carter Tutti Void. De in Stockholm gevestigde sound sculptor Klara Lewis werkte eerder met componist Simon Fisher Turner en producer Peder Mannerfelt. De Portugese filmkunstenaar Pedro Maia gebruikt voornamelijk 8mm- en 16mm-film en werkte onder anderen met singer-songwriter Patti Smith.

Sarkawt Hamad, de in Amsterdam gevestigde en in Irak geboren dj, vindt inspiratie in onder meer rock, dromerige pop en haar Koerdische roots.

The 2023 edition of the audiovisual concert series FIBER x The Rest Is Noise returns to its trusted slot, the first Friday of the new year. With exciting audiovisual collaborations between musicians and visual artists, on the cutting edge of music, media, and physical matter. 

MONOLITH
Part installation and part performance, MONOLITH is based on the concept of the chemical garden, originating from synthetic growth. Inspired by the book The Mechanism of Life by French biologist and physician Stéphane Leduc. Visual artist Vincent Rang translated this concept to the stage, focusing on natural patterns, created for example by wind, water, and crystal. He developed MONOLITH together with DJ/producer Shoal, who focuses on connecting mind, body and sound, and pianist Helena Basilova, who fuses the classical tradition with contemporary composition and technology. 

Nik Colk Void, Klara Lewis en Pedro Maia
Pop, noise, tender techno and brutal ambient merge with analogue film manipulations in a uniquely audio visual project by Nik Colk Void, Klara Lewis and visual artist Pedro Maia. Nik made name in the experimental electronic music scene with the bands Factory Floor and Carter Tutti Void. Stockholm-based sound sculptor Klara Lewis previously collaborated with composer Simon Fisher Turner, and producer Peder Mannerfelt. Portuguese film artist Pedro Maia predominantly uses 16mm and 8mm celluloid film. He has contributed to projects with Patti Smith among others.

Sarkawt Hamad, the Amsterdam-based and Iraqi-born DJ, finds inspiration in all sorts of elements, from rock music to dreamy pop and her roots.
