English Baroque Day

Very English indeed! / feb 25

Typically English, what does that mean? The English measure in inches and ounces, drive on the wrong side of the road and drown their tea in milk. Similar distinctive features can be found in English Baroque music.

Today, Skip Sempé plays characteristic English music for the virginal, a keyboard instrument that was particularly popular in England. Also featured is the utterly unique sound of the viol consort Phantasm. And the day concludes with a grand performance of Purcell’s semi-opera The Fairy Queen. Very English indeed!
