Music and philosophy

Metamorphoses is not only the title of one of the most important collections of poetry from the Roman era, but also one of the last works of Richard Strauss. Cellist and philosopher Izak Hudnik focuses on metamorphoses in his dialogue between music and philosophy. In his words: ‘Music is a kind of aesthetic catalyst. It reflects on our way of life and evokes shared emotions.’

György Kurtág creates small bubbles of emotion in his music and then quickly lets them transform into something else.  The late Strauss reflects on the traumatic metamorphosis of mankind during the Second World War. Philosopher Timotej Prosen helps us to interpret these themes, so that we may better understand both ourselves and the world around us.
