A unique sound with a rich history

The Borodin Quartet celebrates its eightieth anniversary in 2025. Throughout these years, the high quality of their playing has been maintained, thanks in part to cellist Valentin Berlinsky, who was a member of the ensemble from its founding in 1945 until 2007. The Borodin Quartet’s full, resonant sound is reminiscent of the past. It reflects a long history and gives the quartet a unique and robust character. This anniversary celebration will include a performance of the First string quartet by their Russian namesake.

Johannes Brahms is also among the beloved composers of the Borodin Quartet. His romantic, layered music is a perfect fit for the ensemble. In his Third string quartet, Brahms shows a lighter, more cheerful side. This is in contrast to the ‘serious demeanour’ of his First symphony, which premiered just a week earlier.
