Zapp Mattheus (8+)

Zapp Mattheus is a family concert written by two-time Gouden Griffel winner Simon van der Geest and Niek Idelenburg. This St Matthew Passion of about an hour is concise, but respectful of Bach’s masterpiece and the biblical story, so that everyone can become acquainted with this magnificent music.

Two friends tell the story of football coach Jesus and his friends; about friendship, betrayal and playing football until dark. For writer Simon van der Geest, football is the perfect metaphor for the story of Jesus. Jesus is the coach; the twelve disciples form his football team. The Last Match represents The Last Supper.
