Contemporary music for percussion solo and improvisations

The Japanese percussionist Rie Watanabe moved to Germany in 2005. After graduating, she worked with ensembles such as Ensemble Musikfabrik and Klangforum Wien, as well as many German composers, including Helmut Lachenmann and Enno Poppe. She is also regularly active in improvised music. Now, she joins forces with cellist and sound artist Lucija Klein and bass clarinet player Tobias Klein.

Lucija Klein improvises instinctively, and through her unique way of collaborating and emotional approach to the changing dynamics of sound, she creates something new. In addition to improvising, she researches classical music, electro-acoustic music, noise, experimental music, radio and sound art, and community art. The work of bass clarinettist Tobias Klein is at the intersection of improvised music, jazz, non-Western music, and contemporary composed music. He is the artistic director of the ensemble Spinifex and co-leader of the quartet Dalgoo.

This concert takes place at the Plein Theatre as part of the Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam series.
