Ringdown

As a classically trained composer, Caroline Shaw has already made her mark with a Pulitzer Prize and a Grammy. She is also making a splash in the pop world through her collaborations with top artists like Beyoncé. With singer-songwriter Danni Lee, she forms the electropop duo Ringdown. Here too, it’s about bold vocal harmonies, but now embedded in cinematic, partly electronic orchestrations. Music in which Caroline and Danni follow their hearts and break free from all conventions.

With their catchy pop songs, Ringdown is undeniably contemporary. But the duo also sounds nostalgic, partly due to the country twang in Danni Lee’s voice. And there’s always an underlying soul-stirring vibe. Impossible to label then, this ‘love child of Johannes Brahms and Brandi Carlisle − if they were born in the same century and if Brahms was a queer woman.’
