no blues

This is NOT blues, for the record. Or is it? No blues enjoys sprinkling a little sand in the listener’s ears, or rather: stardust. The musicians themselves prefer to call their music ‘arabicana’: a fusion of American roots music (americana) with the rich Arab tradition, in which the guitar and the oud stand side by side in brotherhood. Thus, no blues lets the Nile and Mississippi rivers flow together in one giant musical delta.

No blues has been around for twenty years. Co-founder Ad van Meurs passed away in 2017, but the remaining musicians are keeping the band’s spirit alive. Oud player Haytham Safia and bassist Anne-Maarten van Heuvelen have been with the band since its inception. Their melancholic blend of folk, Arabic makams, and – yes – blues straight from the heart is the perfect soundtrack for a relaxing evening under the sunset sky.

Purchase a ticket for €18.00 for a concert with drinks or a concert with dinner on the Muziekgebouw website. Please note that all drinks and food must be paid for at the terrace. 

Bad weather?
In the event of unfavourable weather conditions, the performance will be held indoors in the Entrance Hall, which overlooks the river IJ. 

Keep in mind: the sun can be intense and the wind can be quite strong near the water, so come prepared.
