Film experts call Limite (1931) the best film of Brazilian cinema. Metá Metá, one of Brazil’s greatest bands, will play a new, contemporary soundtrack for this historic masterpiece together with members of The Ex.

Writer and poet Mário Peixoto’s silent film was and is admired by cinema greats. Peixoto was inspired by a photo by André Kertész of two handcuffed male hands around the neck of a woman looking right into the camera. This one photo led to the bleak story of a man and two women, floating around in a rowboat lost at sea. The trio’s history is revealed in a series of flashbacks. The film was nearly forgotten but is ready to be shown again after rigorous restoration work.

A re-introduction also warrants a new sound, thought the Brazilian greats of Metá Metá, who play a mix of jazz, rock, samba and candomblé rhythms. The band also likes to look beyond the boundaries of its own discipline. It earned Juçara Marçal (vocals), Kiko Dinucci (guitar) and Thiago França (saxophone) several Brazilian music awards as well as the admiration of Christiane Jatahy, associate artist of the Holland Festival. They will play and improvise their own brand-new soundtrack for the film together with Andy Moor and Terrie from the Dutch band The Ex, whom they greatly admire.
