The Qawwali voice

Faiz Ali Faiz is the undisputed master of qawwali, religious music with a rich history in the Persian Empire. He comes from a family of singers, or qawwals, that go back generations. Faiz’s exceptional vocal range and rich timbre set him apart, drawing frequent comparisons to his legendary role model, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. 

Like his great role model, Faiz was born in Pakistan. He attended the most prestigious training in the field and became a professional singer in 1978, the year he also founded his own qawwali ensemble. With his agile voice, he frequently stirs things up within the established musical ritual, creating a unique and captivating experience for his audience.
