Cello playing composers and Schubert songs

Not many people know that both Brahms and Schumann played the cello themselves, even if it wasn’t at the level they were able to play the piano at. Similarly, Wilma Pistorius is a cellist and composed the new piece Timeflow for her former teacher Jeroen den Herder. Brahms’ first sonata for a string instrument with piano, played by Matthias Bartolomey, was his sonata in E minor, which is to this day one of his most performed works.

François Servais was a famous cello virtuoso of the 19th Century and composed spectacular music, initially for his own use. After seriously impressing the audience in 2014 together, Raphaël Pidoux and accordionist Elodie Soulard play the variations on a Theme of Schubert. And with ‘his’ Cello8, an ensemble of young French cellists, all playing sponsored newly built instruments, Pidoux performs three gorgeous Schubert songs.
