Cello-Yurt: Sangita

Maya Fridman performs Sangita by the late Belgian composer Wim Henderickx (who passed away in 2022), but in a version for cello and electronics. Originally, Henderickx composed this work as a cello concerto with orchestra for the seventh Cello Biënnale Amsterdam, as a commission of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. Its world premiere, given by Jean-Guihen Queyras, was one of the highlights of the Biënnale in 2018.

During the Cello Biënnale, a Cello Yurt can be found on the terrace of the Muziekgebouw. A traditional, intimate round tent such as the ones used by travelling nomads in Central Asia.
