Iranian singer meets groundbreaking Turkish ensemble

“We came to Earth to unite, not to separate.” Under this age-old motto of the Persian poet Rumi, Coşkun Karademir and The Secret Ensemble bring the beautiful voice of Iranian singer Mahsa Vahdat to the fore. The ensemble stands for unity and peace and is a meeting of musical souls that transcends boundaries between traditions and beliefs. Together, Karademir and Vahdat show how logical the mix of Turkish and Persian music can be.

Masha Vahdat is not allowed to sing in her native country, but did sing earlier this season for a sold-out Muziekgebouw with Amsterdam Sinfonietta. With The Secret Ensemble she achieved international acclaim with the album Kuşların Çağrısı (The Call of the Birds), selected as 'Top of the World Album' by the authoritative magazine Songlines. The ensemble is led by Coşkun Karademir, an absolute master of the Turkish string instrument bağlama.
