British cellist shines in energetic cello concerto by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach

The British cellist Steven Isserlis shines with Amsterdam Sinfonietta in Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s energetic and dance-like Cello Concerto, as well as in Ernest Bloch’s From Jewish. Accroding to Isserlis, the supplication Prayer from Bloch’s composition is is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written for the cello. In his Kammersinfonie, Arenski composed a monument for his friend and teacher Tchaikovsky, who had just passed away. A programme as Russian as it gets, which will leave no hearts untouched.

In the 5th-Century basilica Santa Sabina in Rome, the American composer Andrew Norman was struck by the breathtaking morning light, shining through the domes onto the marble and mosaic of the church. This is where his captivating composition Sabina was born, a popular piece which the composer has now arranged specially for Amsterdam Sinfonietta.
