The most beautiful notes for cello and Certvantes’ famous novel

In Richard Strauss’ symphonic poem Don Quixote, the cello represents the protagonist and the viola depicts his servant. For this occasion, the musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra play a special arrangement for chamber ensemble, written by Giel Vleggaar. Actor Kenneth Herdigein reads passages from Cervantes’ famous novel.

Michael Gieler, artistic director of IJ-Salon: ‘With this programme, a long-time wish comes true. The music is to be savoured and contains some of the most beautiful notes ever written for cello. This certainly befits Joris van den Berg, one of the fantastic cellists in the Concertgebouw Orchestra. As a viola player, I am of course also looking forward to performing the role of Sancho Panza.’
