In memoriam Reinbert de Leeuw

Recap 14 feb 2025

On February 14, 2025, a musical tribute was paid to conductor, composer and pianist Reinbert de Leeuw by the Nederlands Kamerkoor, Asko|Schönberg and conductor Barbara Hannigan.

It was exactly five years ago that De Leeuw passed away. A concert was held in his name at the Muziekgebouw on February 14, 2025.

The Nederlands Kamerkoor opened with Liszt's Via Crucis (the Fourteen Stations of the Cross), a recording that won the Edison in 1987. This was followed by Sofia Gubaidoelina's Jetzt Immer Schnee, a work De Leeuw premiered in 1994. This piece, in which the choir stands as witnesses around the audience, provides a unique experience that reflects De Leeuw's deep connection to the composer.
