A timeless piece that moves you

‘The opening notes of the Dies Irae cut through the hall like a sharp wind,’ De Gelderlander quoted after the Dutch premiere of Frigyes Hidas’ Requiem for Peace. The Hungarian composer created this work for choir, vocal soloists, and symphonic band to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

The style is modern, but the structure and character are decidedly traditional. Sometimes warm and intimate, at other times bitter, exuberant, or terrifying like a raging storm, Hidas’ Requiem is an evocative, timeless piece that speaks to the heart. The Nederlands Concertkoor will perform this work with renowned soloists and the dedicated wind musicians from Philharmonie Nijmegen, led by Lex Bergink.
