Bosch Requiem 2024 by Micha Hamel and Jonas Staal

Earth Workers Requiem/Jubilate is a musical and visual installation of monumental dimensions, a collaborative work by composer Micha Hamel and visual artist Jonas Staal created for November Music 2024 in Den Bosch. Drawing inspiration from the vast geological timescales of the deep past and the deep future, the musical composition unfolds as an electronic soundscape in surround sound, punctuated by interludes of instrumental and vocal interventions. 

Exclusively for the Muziekgebouw, Hamel and Staal present a theatrical concert hall version of their requiem installation. Through layers of rich sound, this work pays tribute to and portrays earth workers from different time periods. Like a contemporary version of The Internationale, it unites all workers of the earth – not just humans – and all time periods. Participants in the unique performance include actress/singer Khadija Massaoudi, bass-baritone Jasper Schweppe, and trombonist Koen Kaptijn.
