Music from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey

Although the countries of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey have their tensions, their music fits together wonderfully. Azerbaijan composer Frangiz Ali-Zadeh writes a new cello concerto for Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Ivan Monighetti*, who has already premiered several of her compositions.

Nicolas Altstaedt plays the first cello concerto by Turkish pianist and composer Fazıl Say, who wrote it especially for him. Florian Magnus Maier makes a new arrangement of his own piece Gossamer Road for Georgian cellist Ketevan Roinishvili and strings. The piece is largely based on Georgian music.

*Due to onforeseen circumstances Monighetti is unable to perform at this concert. Luckily, his former star student Kian Soltani can step in for the premiere of the piece. He has previously performed Ali-Zadeh's works, including the famous Habil-Sayagy during his debut at the Cello Biënnale.
