Mathilde Nobel
In tegenstelling tot wat haar internationale doen en laten doet vermoeden, komt Mathilde Nobel uit het kleine Nederlandse Zwijndrecht. Tijdens haar studie Art & Design experimenteerde de jonge componiste/producer/vocaliste in haar vrije avonduren met het maken van muziek. Net als het werk van haar heldin Björk zijn Nobels uitgeklede elektronische juweeltjes zeer conceptueel en voorzien van visuals vol associatieve symboliek. Het afgelopen jaar bracht Nous'klaer Audio het debuutalbum May + Be van de artieste uit, dat ze oorspronkelijk in 2019 zelf uitbracht. De 8-track plaat – die hoge verwachtingen schept voor haar toekomst – is een oefening in sereniteit en kalmte, maar onthult tegelijkertijd de donkere uithoeken van haar universum.
Interstellar Funk
Interstellar Funk is een gevestigde koploper van de Nederlandse elektronische muziekscene en al vaker een graag geziene gast op het Dekmantel Festival en bij The Rest is Noise. Na opvallende producties op onder andere Rush Hour, L.I.E.S. en Berceuse Heroique had Dekmantel Records onlangs de eer om het recente debuutalbum van de artiest uit te brengen. Net als zijn DJ-sets, die moeiteloos van genre, tempo en geluid wisselen, is Into the Echo een gedurfd eclectisch werk, waarop hij gesproken zang combineert met hypnotiserende samples en machinale industrial. De wereld van Interstellar Funk is altijd zowel bezinnend als krachtig.
Jeff Mills, J Phi Dary & Prabhu Edouard
Techno-icoon Jeff Mills komt terug naar het Dekmantel Festival 2023 voor wat zeker een allesoverstijgend moment zal worden. In 2018 bracht Mills Tomorrow Comes The Harvest uit, een volledig op improvisatie gebaseerde plaat in samenwerking met wijlen Afro Beat-bedenker Tony Allen en veteraan-toetsenist Jean-Phi Dary. Er volgde een succesvolle tournee waar de drie grootheden livemuziek gebruikten als het ultieme medium om hogere niveaus van bewustzijn te bereiken. Na de vroegtijdige dood van Allen in 2020 herzag Mills het concept van Tomorrow Comes The Harvest, maar bleef wel trouw aan de oorspronkelijke basis en nodigde tablavirtuoos Prabhu Edouard uit om het project nieuw leven in te blazen.

Unlike her otherworldly doings might suggest, Mathilde Nobel hails from the small Dutch town of Zwijndrecht. While studying Art & Design, the young composer/producer/vocalist first started experimenting with making music in her spare evening hours. Much like the work of her heroine Björk, Nobel’s deconstructed electronic gems are highly conceptual and come with visuals that are full of associative symbolism. In the past year, Nous'klaer Audio released the artist’s debut album May + Be, which she originally put out herself in 2019. The 8-track record – which establishes high hopes for the future of Mathilde Nobel – is an exercise in serenity and composure, while simultaneously revealing the dark outskirts of her universe.

Interstellar Funk is a solid frontrunner of the Dutch electronic music scene and – as proven more than once – a welcome Dekmantel Festival guest and The Rest is Noise. Following standout productions on Rush Hour, L.I.E.S., and Berceuse Heroique, among others, Dekmantel Records recently had the honour of releasing the artist’s recent debut album. Akin to his DJ sets, which glide effortlessly between genre, tempo and sound, Into the Echo is a daringly eclectic work, combining sung-spoken iterations with hypnotic samples and machinic industrial. The world of Interstellar Funk is always both pensive and powerful.

Techno icon Jeff Mills back is back to Dekmantel Festival 2023 for what will surely be a transcendental moment. Back in 2018 Mills released Tomorrow Comes The Harvest, a fully improv-based record in collaboration with late Afro Beat creator Tony Allen and veteran keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary. A highly praised tour followed, where the three luminaries employed live music as the ultimate medium for reaching higher levels of consciousness. Following the untimely death of Allen in 2020, Mills reconfigured the concept of Tomorrow Comes The Harvest, nonetheless staying true to its original foundation, and invited Tabla virtuoso Prabhu Edouard to breathe new life into the project.
