Ere Lievonen Fokker organ

Sixty years of Dutch musical creativity on the Fokker organ

Not only the Fokker organ, but also Dutch composers in the spotlight. How do the leading contemporary Dutch composers use the possibilities of the 31-tone organ? Different tastemakers of Dutch music, such as Klaas de Vries and Peter-Jan Wagemans, take up the challenge to explore the Fokker organ. Their newly written works will be performed alongside ‘classics’ such as Collages (1962) by Peter Schat and Passacaglia and chorale by Hans Kox. Over sixty years of Dutch musical creativity on the Fokker organ.

New music is essential to keep the Fokker organ alive and vibrant. Which is why a number of Dutch composers have been commissioned to write new work. Each composer first gets to play on the organ for a couple of days, to get to know the instrument intimately. The composers will then write a miniature that not only reflects their own musical voice, but also allows the organ to shine. The commissioning of new organ music is a way to reflect the vibrant and diverse musical landscape of the Netherlands of today.
