FIBER X The Rest is Noise 2022

The Rest Is Noise en FIBER Festival kijken zowel terug als vooruit op een ingrijpende mondiale transitieperiode. Een periode waarin fysieke ervaringen werden gesimuleerd in virtuele werelden en er een nieuwe balans ontstond tussen on- en offline leven. Audiovisueel kunstenaars Lee Gamble, Aho Ssan en CORIN reflecteren in drie optredens op onze eindeloos versnellende technologische leefomgeving.

Flush Real Pharynx van Lee Gamble is als een desoriënterende reis, visueel vormgegeven door gameontwikkelaar Clifford Sage. Aho Ssan baseerde zijn nieuwe werk op het concept van het rizoom van filosofen Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. CORIN en Tristan Jalleh presenteren de wereldpremière van Lux Aeterna, hun audiovisuele performance over een mogelijk verhoogd collectief bewustzijn in tijden van crisis.

Lee Gamble feat. Clifford Sage – Flush Real Pharynx (live A/V)
Het invloedrijke werk van de Britse musicus Lee Gamble kan gezien worden als een lens die de constant versnellende en vaak onzichtbare ontwikkeling van hypergeavanceerde technologie in focus brengt. Clifford Sage, alias Recsund, is als gameontwerper en CGI-kunstenaar gevestigd in Londen. Hij werkte onder andere voor internationaal geroemde kunstenaars als Lawrence Lek en Joey Holder. Flush Real Pharynx is gebaseerd op drie ep’s uit 2019-2021, waarin Lee Gamble het concept ‘semioblitz’ van filosoof en schrijver Mark Fisher uitdiept. Dit is wat Gamble zelf beschrijft als ‘een agressieve aanval van visuele en sonische stimuli voortgebracht door hedendaagse steden en virtuele ruimtes.’

Aho Ssan – Rhizomes (live)
Ontwerper en filmmaker Désiré Niamké, alias Aho Ssan, groeide op in rParijs. In zijn werk onderzoekt hij de vraag: wat is ‘werkelijkheid’ en wie bepaalt deze? In het Muziekgebouw presenteert hij de Nederlandse première van Rhizomes, een live-uitvoering van een nieuw album gebaseerd op ideeën van de filosofen Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. Volgens hun definitie is het rizoom een zichzelf ontwikkeld model dat altijd in beweging is en zich in alle richtingen zal uitbreiden. Een complex systeem zonder begin en einde, maar wel altijd met een midden. Aho Ssan verzamelde geluid van musici als Angel Bat Dawid, Nicolas Jaar en Moor Mother, om een muzikaal rizoom te creëren.

CORIN - Lux Aeterna (live A/V) visuals by Tristan Jalleh
Corin Ileto is een Filipijns-Australische producer, componist en performer van elektronische muziek. Haar producties zijn als assemblages. Genres uit de dance en hiphop, van trance tot grime, brengt ze samen met barokke ambient, waarin haar opleiding in het klassieke pianospel doorklinkt. Haar optredens raken aan theater, geluidskunst, performance art en clubcultuur. Voor haar producties put ze uit zowel sciencefiction als voorouderlijke mythen die verbonden zijn met haar Filipijnse afkomst, waardoor haar werk omschreven kan worden als speculatieve fictie. Tristan Jalleh is een Maleisisch-Australische mediakunstenaar die vanuit Hanoi werkt. Zijn werk werd vertoond op diverse festivals en in onder meer Sydney Opera House en National Gallery of Australia.

Deze performance is een samenwerking met Australische SOFT CENTRE festival en wordt ondersteund door het Australia Council for the Arts.

Loradeniz
De performances worden omlijst door dj-sets van Loradeniz, componist, zangeres en pianist afkomstig uit Istanbul en gevestigd in Amsterdam. Door haar muzikale achtergrond en haar passie voor raves weet zij als DJ de meest uiteenlopende stijlen te combineren.

The Rest Is Noise and FIBER Festival will be revisiting and anticipating a radical global transitional period. A period when physical experiences were simulated in virtual worlds, creating a new balance between on- and offline living. Audiovisual artists Lee Gamble, Aho Ssan and CORIN reflect on our endlessly accelerating technological living environment in three performances.

Flush Real Pharynx by Lee Gamble is a disorienting journey, visually designed by game developer Clifford Sage. Aho Ssan based his new work on the concept of the rhizome by philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. CORIN and Tristan Jalleh present the world premiere of Lux Aeterna, their audiovisual performance on a possibly heightened collective consciousness in times of crisis.

The influential work of British musician Lee Gamble can be regarded as a lens focusing on the accelerating and often invisible development of hyper-advanced technology. Clifford Sage, aka Recsund, is a game developer and CGI artist based in London. He has worked with internationally acclaimed contemporary artists such as Lawrence Lek and Joey Holder. Flush Real Pharynx is based on three EPs from 2019-2021 where Lee Gamble elaborates on the concept of ‘semioblitz’ by philosopher and writer Mark Fisher. Gamble describes this concept as ‘the aggressive onslaught of visual and sonic stimuli of contemporary cities and virtual spaces.’

Aho Ssan – Rhizomes (live)
Designer and film maker Désiré Niamké, aka Aho Ssan, grew up in Paris. In his work he examines the question: what is reality, and who defines it? At Muziekgebouw he presents the Dutch premiere of Rhizomes, a live performance based on the ideas of philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guatarri. According to them a rhizome is an evolving model, always in motion, spreading in all directions. It has no beginning and no end, but always in a middle, through which it grows and overflows. To create his own musical rhizome, Aho Ssan collected the sounds of musicians such as Angel Bat Dawid, Nicolas Jaar, and Moor Mother.

CORIN – Lux Aeterna (live A/V) visuals by Tristan Jalleh
Corin Ileto is a Filipina-Australian electronic producer, composer and performer working in the field of performance art, sound design, theatre and club spaces. In her compositions, traditional forms merge with hyper-digital sounds to create new imaginary realms. Corin’s productions are an assemblage of converging styles moving somewhere between IDM, grime, EBM, trance, and baroque-laden ambience. Coming from a background in classical piano, her live performances encompass technical configurations executed with equal parts emotion and cold precision. Her productions can be thought of as a speculative fiction drawing influence from both sci-fi and ancestral myths connected to her Filipino heritage. Tristan Jalleh is a Malaysian/Australian multimedia artist based in Hanoi, who has produced artwork for various festivals and for the Sydney Opera House and the National Gallery of Australia.

This performance is a collaboration with Australian arts organisation SOFT CENTRE.

Loradeniz
The performances will be framed by Loradeniz, an electronic music composer and DJ born in Istanbul and currently based in Amsterdam. Drawing on her unique skill set of being a pianist, vocalist, and composer, she is able to cover a range of styles and forms while embodying the heart of the true raver’s spirit.

FIBER x The Rest Is Noise is onderdeel van de FIBER Festival 2022 programmering, dat zal plaatsvinden van 16 – 19 Juni op verschillende locaties in Amsterdam. Het is mede mogelijk gemaakt door steun van het Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie, Fonds21, het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds en SOFT CENTRE festival.
