Venues should be a safe place for everyone
Statement by VSCD, NAPK and VNPF
27 March 2024
It is with concern that we see increasing incidents of polarization in our venues and buildings.
Everyone, from artists to staff to audiences, must be safe within our houses and on our stages. There is no place for actions or intimidation motivated by anti-Semitism, xenophobia, gender discrimination or any other expression contrary to our constitution.
We endorse the statement by De Creatieve Coalatie emphasizing that the cultural sector should be a safe haven where artistic expression is celebrated and differences of opinion can come together in a respectful manner.
We pursue inclusiveness so that the essence of our homes and our cultural tradition remains intact; we stand for the free arts and free speech.
We want to work with the Secretary of State for Culture and Media to establish a safety protocol so that, should the need arise, venues can call on government preventive safety measures. To remain a place that is open and accessible to all.
