Four seasons with specific improvisations

Minimal music composer Philip Glass wrote his violin concerto The American Four Seasons as a companion piece to Vivaldi’s famous The Four Seasons. As early as the 1960s, Glass became fascinated by Indian music. In Indian ragas, the seasons have their specific improvisations and are used to evoke a particular mood or atmosphere. In this concert, ragas with traditional vocals and instruments are woven through Glass’s seasons.

Traces of Indian music can also be heard in Water by Jonny Greenwood, the guitarist of Radiohead. He uses a vast array of both classical and contemporary instruments to create limitless soundscapes.
